More on the iPhone

Looks like there's a new non-soldering solution here. It involves a worldwide team effort to boot.

Then there's this suggestion that Steve Jobs always knew it would be hacked and wanted it to happen.

And then there's this... Oh wait, maybe that has nothing to do with the iPhone... But then again, if the universe is all just a computer simulation, maybe the iPhone has something to do with it after all.

Evangelical Military Coup?

This article is really quite provocative. If it's true, there really is a cult, with quite a bit of power, that threatens to undermine our democracy.

On the other hand, it does raise a crucial question about what form of spirtual and moral thought might be able to adequately replace the vacuum left by the success of our industrial/technological/scientific society.

Information Is On the Loose

There's something so righteous about the hacker mentality, isn't there? Here's a 17 year-old who freed Apple's iPhone from its shackles to AT&T.

Energy Evolution

My friend has asked me to help him post information about renewable energy and other developments in the energy field to ultimately be integrated with his energy consulting business web site. Today I set up Energy Evolution News as a blog for him, and I'm beginning to find some interesting stuff. Have a look.

The War as We Saw It

I know this op-ed is making the rounds. The fact that seven army officers are writing it in the New York Times is indicative of the times. And it pops whatever's left of the reality bubble which maintains that progress is being made in Iraq.

Law of Reverse Effect

Oh, and then there's this story about how the new wiretapping law could come back to bite us on the ass.

A Gateway for Hackers

Guns for Hire

A friend sent me this cheery article this morning. It looks like the US has a bigger mercenary army in Iraq than regular army. This covers the scope and details of all that. Can anybody do something?

New Business Models?

This article is real interesting. It both gives a brief history of the Napster Wars and the demise of the record business, and it warns against a repeat of that debacle by visual media companies with regard to services like YouTube. Beyond that, it argues that use first and negotiate later has been the business model for over a hundred years, as when record companies recorded sheet music and then worked out a payment plan for it.

What's Up

I know I haven't blogged for a couple weeks. You know those moments when everything's happening at once, and some things have to give. Well, this time it was the blog.

Lots of good things happening though. The big event for the band is Musikfest this Saturday and Sunday in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. If you live anywhere within 100 miles, you oughtta come. It's a great big 10-day music marathon in the old town. There are about 8 stages with music going on all day. Most of the concerts are free, but you do need tickets for some of the bigger names. Hey, I heard ABC is broadcasting Patti LaBelle live from Musikfest one night this week.

We're bringing down three young musicians from western Massachusetts to play this year, Jordan Russ on drums and percussion, Ian Coss on bass, guitar and accordion, and Nolan Gardner on keyboards. We'll be joined both days by "Brother Ben" on the keys, and some bass guitar. And Sunday we'll be joined by guitarist Mike Stanley, who played with us the past two years.

I promise this will be some of the best music Radio Free Earth has ever made, so come if you can.

Musikfest
Radio Free Earth at Liederplatz
Saturday, August 11, 5pm to 6:30pm
Sunday, August 12, noon to 2pm
