Something in the Air
Can you feel it, smell it, taste it? Things are stirring.
I had a dream last night. There was a white bird flying amidst a host of black birds. Suddenly I realized the black birds were attacking the white one. And that the white one was actually a chicken. (How it could fly? I'm not sure. Maybe it just changed to disguise itself as a chicken.) In any case, it managed to land and I helped out by spooking the other birds that were chasing it so the white one could settle in and roost safely with its fellows (who were also dark brown and black).
When I turned, I realized the threatening black birds had landed, too, a short distance away. The attackers -- perhaps turkey vultures -- hid near a house and were docile for a moment. But soon they were looking at the white bird and her fellows, planning to attack. I intervened again, and tried to scare them. But the attempt was feeble. Though they seemed like normal birds, they soon started moving on me! They grew to an enormous height and were bearing down on me. I could do nothing, and I think that's when I woke up.
What does it mean?
My first take is that the white bird/chicken represented Truth -- delicate, not normally expressed, endangered and threatened. The black birds the many perils to justice, harmony and righteousness. My first spooking of the birds -- the fact that I could help that bird. My failure in the second wave of attack, a realization that I can do but little all myself.
No one person is strong enough, perhaps. It takes friendship and team work. Organization and effort. Maybe the black chickens roosting around the white one represent that collective action.
This evening I checked back in on a blog I like to read by a former special forces soldier and teacher at West Point who is critical of American Imperial Policy and has written some incredible stuff, including an amazing series called "Persian Peril", part of which is an incisive history of the American monetary system in the 20th century. Today he's posted a link to a site called Insurgent American and a list of core principles addressing the problems of the moment. A taste of what he says:
Core Beliefs
....Deep political challenges require deep challenges to ideology.
...
*[P]ursuit of activities ... must be decentralized and associated through “networks.” These need not be involved in any illegal actions.
*[Some] basic [guidelines] must be: personal debt relief, re-localization and food-water-energy-health-and-learning self-sufficiency for local communities as the precondition for wider political resistance.
*Networks also needed to share information, news, reflections, culture, and analysis....
This is the beginnings of the outline of an American Revolution I think perhaps I could get behind, and am perhaps already involved in in some mysterious way. To learn more about this so-called American Insurgency, read the whole thing here.
